The Road to Recovery

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The last eight years have been spent with our leaders and institutions requiring us to confront the post-9/11 notion of threats to our security.

Now, however, begins the time for us to experience “participatory economics.”

The next decade (at the very least) will find us dedicated to working on recovery, on rebuilding our own personal and financial lives, as well as the spiritual life of our nation.

The fuzzy abstraction of “security” will be replaced by a hard-edged new reality. Starting now, it will be impossible for us to escape the responsibility to do the gritty day-to-day work necessary to recover our personal and national well-being.

Each of us must understand our role in the changing new economy, and work hard at playing our part well. On stage, everyone.

Time to Make an Effort

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

I receive statistics-filled emails every day from banks, title companies and others all trying to answer the question “Does anybody really know what’s going on with the real estate market and the economy?”

It occurs to me we should not forget to do the work to convert all that information into knowledge. We should analyze and reflect on everything that comes to us and avoid just accepting what the “experts” say. We really want to get through analysis and reflection and move to action with a real estate “solution” that helps us accomplish the goals in our lives.  Information that is not translated into specific knowledge related to individual situations and goals leads to speculation, concern and worry and ultimately to no action and depression and cynicism.  It does not have to work that way; finding what works for you with the help of professionals will get you out of that loop of inactivity and worry.  Some suggested questions you can ask yourself include:
-    What am I trying to accomplish with my “real estate solution”?
-    What keeps me from taking the next step?
-    Who can I learn from?
-    What specific professional expertise do I need to get?
-    Why is a “real estate solution” important for my family?
-    What challenge have I been avoiding?
-    What action can I take today instead of worrying about the media buzz or what I don’t really understand?

We should all be aware of the necessity to “make an effort” ourselves to turn our lives around for a better future. Stop accepting without question what is being given you by the media; it’s probably wrong for you. Now is the time to work out your “real estate solution”.
